2012 COMPSAC Sponsored Events

When necessary, transportation will be provided for all conference sponsored events. Monday and Tuesday evening events are within walking distance of the hotel.


Monday evening: ICT Vision for Izmir Search Conference and COMPSAC Welcome Reception 

ICT Vision for Izmir Search Conference - all COMPSAC/SAINT participants are welcome to attend this evening event sponsored by the Izmir Municipality. This conference seeks to explore ways for the city of Izmir to encourage the growth of technology-based research and industry. 

16:00: Meet in the Swissotel lobby for a bus tour of the area that will land at the Izmir Fair, location for the ICT Vision for Izmir Search Conference. Following the conference, a welcome reception will be held from 20:00 to 21:30 for all participants.

Attendees that cannot attend the ICT Vision for Izmir Conference can gather in the Swissotel lobby for a guided walk to the reception location. 
Tickets to the event will be included in attendee registration packets. Attendees without tickets may present their conference badge for admittance.

Tuesday evening: Conference banquet/gala dinner, outdoors at Old Smyrna

The conference banquet for 2012 will be an outdoor gala dinner at Old Smyrna, located on the Gulf of Izmir. Tickets will be included in each full registration packet. Note that day pass and student registrations do not include banquet tickets; however, additional tickets may be purchased on the registration website. Old Smyrna is the original site of an ancient Greek settlement, dating from the 11th century BC. Later, a new city was founded, reportedly through Alexander the Great, a short distance from the original site. Both sites are important archeological research sites in Izmir. Wednesday evening: Bus trip to Ephesus

Departing at 4pm on Wednesday, all conference participants are invited to attend a bus trip to the House of the Virgin Mary and the ancient Greek city of Ephesus. Once an ancient Greek city, and later a major Roman city, Ephesus today is a major archaeological site, approximately 1 hour south of Izmir (by bus). Ephesus was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League during the Classical Greek era. In the Roman period, Ephesus had a population of more than 250,000 in the 1st century BC, which also made it one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean world. Features of the trip will include viewing the remains of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Other features of Ephesus include the Library of Celsus (c. 125 AD), the Basilica of St. John (6th century AD), the Odeon (a 150 AD theater), the Temple of Hadrian (2nd century BC), the Temple of Domitian, the Ephesus Theater (the largest outdoor theater in the ancient world) and the Tomb/Fountain of Pollio (97 AD).

Attendees will be able to purchase dinner after the tour at Kusadasi, which is one of the famous touristic sites around Izmir.

20:00-21:20: Time to explore Kudasai, purchase dinner
